IAW is a non-profit organization, based in Geneva with consultative status at the Economic and Social Council of the UN (ECOSOC), participatory status at the Council of Europe (CoE), membership status of the European Women’s Lobby (EWL) and represented at the Arab League, the African Union and other international organizations.
In its work IAW is guided by the following principles:
IAW affirms that full and equal enjoyment of human rights is due to all women and girls. IAW maintains that a prerequisite to securing these rights is the universal ratification and implementation without reservations of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).

The IAW has general consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council and is accredited to many specialized UN agencies, has participatory status with the Council of Europe and is represented at the Arab League, the African Union and other international organizations.
